Vitovska is an autochthonous and rare white grape variety, typical of the Karst area, both in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and on the Slovenian side.

Slovenian origins

The clearly Slovenian name seems to come from the locality of Vipacco in Slovenia (Vitovlje). It is a DOC wine whose production in Italy is allowed in the provinces of Gorizia and Trieste.

In the past it was mostly vinified in blending with other grapes, such as Malvasia. But thanks to the tendency to rediscover forgotten native vines, it is increasingly vinified alone.

Over time, Vitovska has managed to carve out its space on the market and today the vine represents an important reality in the wine scene.

The bunch

It has pyramid-shaped and compact bunches, with spherical yellow berries with golden veins.

It is grown in the karst, a rocky area which, despite the arid and stony soil, is actually very fertile.

From Vitovska wines with good personality and depth are obtained, with an olfactory range between fruity and herbaceous.

On the palate it has an excellent balance between sapidity and acidity and a dry taste that goes well with appetizers of fresh cured meats and also with simple seafood dishes. It is also increasingly appreciated as an aperitif.
